PORT TOWNSEND — On Saturday at 10 a.m., Leif Hansen will invite people to do something that may be far outside their comfort zone: play.
Fortunately, Hansen has experience with this kind of thing. His company, Spark Interaction (www.SparkInteraction.com), works with businesses and other organizations on team-building, visioning retreats and other activities to help people loosen up and tap into their creative selves.
But this Saturday’s “Collaborative Creativity and Play” session, to be held at the Cotton Building, 607 Water St., is about recreation, not business.
Free to play
It’s free, first of all. And it’s part of the Port Townsend Community Read, which this year is of Pam Houston’s travel-adventure novel Contents May Have Shifted.
The book is about exploring and stepping — or flying, rafting or hiking — into uncharted territories.
“Are you feeling not quite as inspired about your future as you’d like to be? Or are you simply interested in more everyday spontaneity, adventure and creative collaboration within your local community?” Hansen asks in his invitation to Saturday’s activities.
Have fun together
The two-hour event will offer “inter-activities,” he said, to let people have fun together.
They’re designed to help people envision an inspired, playful, even liberated future.
“Collaborative Creativity and Play” is only one of many free Community Read events to come in the final two weeks of March.
While copies of Contents May Have Shifted are available via the Port Townsend Library, housed in the Mountain View Commons at 1925 Blaine St., discussions of it are open to all at 5 p.m. this Tuesday at Pippa’s Real Tea, 636 Water St., and at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Northwind Arts Center, 2409 Jefferson St.
The following Monday, March 25, local writer Judith Kitchen will discuss Houston’s book from her experience as an author and literary critic at 6:30 p.m. in the Library Learning Center, 1256 Lawrence St.
Finally, Houston herself will come from her home in California to discuss Contents — in which her heroine travels to 10 countries and two dozen states — on two nights in two cities.
First, she will appear at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27; then, she will give another free talk at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in the Port Townsend High School auditorium, 1500 Van Ness St.
