PORT LUDLOW — This weekend’s Festival by the Bay is a way for the small resort town of Port Ludlow to give back to the community.
In 2014, the festival provided $3,000 each to Chimacum Schools and Olympic Community Action Programs, both of which will be beneficiaries this year, too.
“We want to give back to the local community as we welcome people and show them a different part of the Peninsula,” said organizer Linda Karp with the Port Ludlow Festival Association.
“It’s a good family friendly festival. There is great music and a lot of things to do,” she said.
“We want people to come down and visit us, to see what we’re all about.”
Festival events begin at 8 a.m. today with a fireman’s breakfast, continuing until 7:30 p.m. at the Port Ludlow Marina, 1 Gull Drive.
Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., when a fireworks show will light up the sky.
The festival will continue Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Admission is $8 for three days, with children younger than 12 admitted free.
The festival began in 2001 as a 9/11 remembrance and grew steadily until 2010, when the Port Ludlow Festival Association became a nonprofit, giving it more scope to serve as a fundraiser, Karp said.
In recent years, the event has drawn 3,000 to 4,000 people throughout the weekend, she said.
Craft fair
The main attraction is the craft fair with 56 vendors and six food vendors, while the golf tournament at 1 p.m. today is also popular, Karp said.
The fee for the golf tournament — $40 for Port Ludlow Golf Club members and $75 for nonmembers — includes a box lunch, range balls, prizes for on-course contests, prizes for the winners and a free festival admission.
Music is a big part of the event, featuring tonight’s show by local country celebrity Buck Ellard and a Saturday night performance of Heart to Heart.
Those headliners, who hit the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, include bassist Steve Fossen and drummer Michael Derosier, founding members of Heart.
Opening for them will be Ranger & the “Re-Arrangers,” a local gypsy jazz group.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate or in advance at Port Ludlow Bay and Beach clubs, Port Ludlow Marina, The Inn at Port Ludlow, Active Life Physical Therapy in Port Ludlow, Port Ludlow Village Market and Port Hadlock QFC.

■ 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Car Show in the upper lot.
■ 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Port Ludlow Singers, food court stage.
■ 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. — Fabulous Murftones, food court stage.
■ 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. — Winterlings, food court stage.
■ 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. — Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers,” concert stage.
■ 8 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. — Heart to Heart, concert stage.
■ 10 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. — Fireworks.
Sunday
■ 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Craft vendor booth and art show and sale at the Port Ludlow Yacht Club in the Port Ludlow Marina; display area open.
■ Noon to 2 p.m. — Dukes of Dabob, food court stage.
