PORT ANGELES — Original folk, rock and live art will converge at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, as Redwing hosts an album-release party Saturday night.
The band, with Jenny James on fiddle, Eric Neurath on bass and Doug Parent and Dan Maguire on guitars, will step up at 9 p.m. to celebrate their debut CD, “Toe in the Water,” even as Jeff Tocher erects his easel beside the stage.
Tocher, the Port Angeles artist known for painting the bands at Port Angeles’ annual Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts, did the album cover art for “Toe.” He will do his performance-painting thing during Saturday’s show, making it a multimedia event.
The cover charge at the Junction will be $3, while copies of “Toe in the Water” will be on sale for $10.
“We’re going to play our original songs; there are 10 songs on the album that I wrote, and our fiddle player, Jenny, is going to be singing some songs she loves,” Parent said.
Redwing has some classic rock covers in its repertoire, such as Bob Dylan’s “I Shall Be Released” and “Baby Let Me Follow You Down” and Delbert McClinton’s “Two More Bottles of Wine.”
“We’re going to mix it up, with country, folk and the blues we do,” Parent added, noting that the Redwing name came from the band’s interest in trying on different kinds of music. It’s about the freedom of flight, not the brand of shoes.
Aside from Saturday night, “Toe in the Water” is available at CDBaby.com, iTunes.com and other online outlets. The CD is an altogether local production for the 3-year-old band, said Parent. Tocher, Port Angeles photographer Carol Pope and Gene Stashuk did the artwork on the cover and liner notes, and Apostrophe Music, also in Port Angeles, recorded and mastered the CD.
