WEEKEND: PlayFest 20 continues this weekend in Port Townsend

NOTE: “Today” and “tonight” refer to Friday, March 11.

PORT TOWNSEND — “An Evening with Darrah Cloud” will be presented tonight during the second weekend of Key City Public Theatre’s PlayFest 20.

Cloud is the featured guest playwright this year for the festival that began last weekend. Festival passes are $35.

Cloud’s play “The Posthumous Democrat” is the story of a composer, Catherine Starr, whose famous, connected conservative father leaves her a legacy both enormous and crippling.

“An Evening with Darrah Cloud” will be from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the playhouse at 419 Washington St. Tickets are $20.

The festival begins at 11 a.m. today with a reading from “War Stories” at the Pope Marine Building at Water and Madison streets. Tickets are $10.

In Richard Dresser’s “War Stories,” Master Sgt. Boyd Cassidy, a Vietnam War vet, is in a high-end Phoenix hotel to finally receive the recognition he deserves after years of turmoil — until a knock at the door sends him into a horror more profound than anything he faced on the battlefield.

At 1:30 p.m., there will be a reading from “Port Townsend’s Christmas Carol: A Ghostly Musical” at the playhouse. Tickets are $10.

The play is an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic written by KCPT Musical Director Linda Dowdell and Artistic Director Denise Winter.

“Port Townsend’s Christmas Carol” will premiere at Key City Public Theatre in December.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be open rehearsal for “War Stories” at the Pope Marine Building. Admission is free.

From 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., there will be a Working Drafts session for locals. Tickets are $10.

From 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., there will be one-act readings at the Pope Marine Building. Tickets are $10.

Readings will be from the winning plays of the 2015 Port Townsend Arts Commission’s One-Act Play Competition. Authors are Christopher Clow, Doug Given, D.D. Wigley, Judith Glass Collins and new playwright Hewitt Brooks.
