PORT TOWNSEND — The Pipia sisters, Sophie and Phina, are about to have juggling tossed into their musical mix.
On Saturday night at the Chameleon Theater, the pair of Port Townsend-bred artists will offer a new set of love songs and what they call “oddball ballads,” while Bellingham-based juggler-bassist Nate Wheeler joins the party.
Show time is at 7 p.m., and admission is by donation at the Chameleon, 800 W. Park Ave. on Castle Hill.
After growing up in Port Townsend, the Pipia Sisters took off for New York City to start their performance company, Generation Goat Rocket, in 2009. They wrote and directed a variety of musical plays and have since produced original shows on the East and West coasts.
As a follow-up to their sold-out show here in December, Sophie and Phina are eager to try out their latest material.
Challenging ourselves
“We’re challenging ourselves to play an entirely different set . . . We want our audience to enjoy something completely new,” Sophie said.
Wheeler, meanwhile, has performed internationally as a juggler and musician. He’s toured Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia with the juggling group 3 of Clubs, traveled with the New Old Time Chautauqua vaudeville circus and is the bassist with a number of bands in the Puget Sound area.
On Saturday night, Wheeler will bring his electric bass to the Chameleon to accompany the Pipia Sisters, who sing and play guitar, ukulele, keyboard and accordion.
The sisters are preparing to bring their musical play, “Crook of My Dreams,” to the Montreal Fringe Festival this June, with Wheeler and other performers also appearing in the production.
“We’re very honored to work with Nate,” Phina said.
“We look for performers with a wide range of talents, and Nate can do just about anything . . . [He’s] a captivating performer.”
All proceeds from the event will help the Pipia Sisters bring “Crook of my Dreams” to Montreal.
