SEQUIM — The Washington Old Time Fiddlers’ All Star Band will dish up music for a contra dance at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road, this Saturday evening.
Nan Evans of Port Townsend will do the calling for the 7 p.m. get-together, and admission is a suggested $5 donation. Snack foods are welcome, too.
“This will be a good chance to warm up for our special dance on Wednesday,” said Tom Shindler, organizer of the monthly contra dances at Port Angeles’ Black Diamond Community Hall.
Wednesday dance
The Great Bear Trio, nationally known for driving rhythms and a rocking style, will play there from 6:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday, while George Marshall, a dance caller described by contra enthusiasts as “fantastically smooth,” teaches and calls the steps.
Singles, couples and youngsters are welcome to learn contra, a line dance with English and French roots.
All ages are welcome, with admission a suggested donation of $10 for adults, less for students and children.
The Black Diamond Community Hall, about 2 miles south of Port Angeles via Pine Street, is at 1942 Black Diamond Road.
