SEQUIM — The NorthWest Women’s Chorale this evening will present FolkSong Fantasia a dynamic spring concert filled with beautiful music, a fun-filled singalong and a few special appearances and surprises.
“For their spring concert, the Chorale will present an evening of song that is very uplifting, including gospel music, spirituals, Appalachian songs and pieces from the African continent, Finland, Iraq, the British Isles and Korea,” said Jo Ann Olson, a member of the chorale.
“Plan to attend an evening of song that promises to inspire with its message of hope, loss and love.”
Conductor Joy A. Lingerfelt said that during this time of terror and dissent around the globe, “folk songs become a vehicle to remind us all that we are brothers and sisters who long for peace and healing,” adding that “folk songs have the power to build community as they express what is important to a people, especially what they are lamenting.”
A second show
The show is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave., with a second show at the same time Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.
Entry for both events is by the suggested donation of $15.
The NorthWest Women’s Chorale is an auditioned vocal group and nonprofit organization based at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
The group was founded by Lingerfelt, who currently serves as an associate in ministry at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and previously directed the Community Chorus in Port Angeles.
The group is accompanied by pianist Kristin Quigley Brye.
Presently, Brye is an adjunct professor of music at Peninsula College and maintains a private studio.
