CHIMACUM — The inaugural East Jefferson Rotary Mutt Strut is set for Sunday.
There will be several contests to enter a dog in during the strut from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chimacum Middle School, 91 West Valley Road.
Contests include “Most Cute,” “Least Cute,” “Most Obedient,” “Fastest,” “Best Frisbee Catcher” and “Best Costume.”
Winning dogs in all contests will “strut” home with a blue ribbon and other prizes.
Admission is free for children 3 and younger, $3 for ages 4-13, $5 for ages 14 and older, $4 for dogs and under $15 for a family of four.
The event is hosted by the East Jefferson Rotary Club as a fundraiser for the club’s community and international service projects.
Pam Rogge is a recognized local dog expert who has volunteered to help create the event. The Mutt Strut also will have several professional dog groups putting on demonstrations.
The “Sentinel Shepherds,” led by Tim Rieber, will demonstrate tracking, protection (bite work) and obedience.
Veteran trainer Kay Thoreson will show her dogs that do “nosework” and recently were featured on KING-TV.
Carla Ellis will have her “Read 2 Rover” dogs available for kids to read to.
There will be performances by agility dogs that go through obstacle courses as well as dogs dancing with their handlers.
The major sponsors are Pet Town and Dog Townsend of Port Townsend.
In addition, there will be food vendors, a firetruck, a “bouncy ball house” and face painting.
