PORT TOWNSEND — The Mirinesse Women’s Choir of Seattle, co-conducted by Port Townsend resident Rebecca Rottsolk, will begin its 2015 season here with “Wearing the Sky,” a concert slated for this Saturday at the Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave.
Admission to the 7 p.m. performance is a suggested $15 donation at the door.
In this program, the Mirinesse — which means “filled with joy” — will sing inspirational poetry from ancient Jewish and Christian texts and art songs by Johannes Brahms, as well as “Breaths” by Ysaye M. Barnwell, “She Rises” by Catherine Dalton and the traditional “Bright Morning Stars.”
The 70-voice choir will also offer Jake Runestad’s composition “Sing, Wearing the Sky,” inspired by Lalla, a 14th-century Sufi mystic.
“It’s an extraordinary honor to sing with Mirinesse,” said Bev Schaaf, a Nordland resident and member for several years.
Her fellow singers, who come from Seattle and Bellevue, are classically trained and highly dedicated, she said.
The conductors, Rottsolk and Beth Ann Bonnecroy of Seattle, guide the choir to “an amazing result.”
