PORT ANGELES — Starting tonight, painters, players and shadows will overtake downtown Port Angeles in a series of events, a number of which are free.
These are the Second Weekend festivities, to include an opening reception today for “Moments in History,” Meredith Parker’s photography show at Karon’s Frame Center. Admission is free to the event at the shop at 625 E. Front St. Parker, a Makah tribal member who seeks to capture her community’s history with images of Makah Days, the Canoe Journey and other Neah Bay scenes, will be on hand from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tonight also brings Second Friday Art Rock to Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St. This mashup of visual artmaking and live music stars painters Jeff Tocher and Mike Pace, who will confront colors and canvases while the band Chesnut Junction plays.
The curious are invited to see Pace and Tocher’s paintings materialize on site; dancing to Chesnut Junction’s jamming is also encouraged. The party, with a $3 cover charge, starts at 8 p.m.
Saturday afternoon, free ukulele music will flow at Elliott’s Antique Emporium, 135 E. First St., as Roma Peters plays. Peters, who sings along with her uke under the stage name Hawaii Amor, will share her music from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Then “Jazzy Judy” Clark will arrive for an hour-long sing-along at 5 p.m.; everyone is invited.
Harbor Art, 110 E. Railroad Ave., will open for the Second Weekend art stroll around downtown. The shop and gallery’s featured artists will be on hand there for a public reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
At Studio Bob, the art space upstairs at 118½ E. Front St., fine art photography by Ernst-Ulrich Schafer and Phil Tauran composes this weekend’s show. Admission is free to the opening reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. The Loom, Studio Bob’s bar, offers refreshments. And for those who can’t make it Saturday, the photo show will have an encore opening from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
