SEQUIM — A veteran Master Gardener will describe lasagna gardening, a no-dig, no-till gardening system, at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Master Gardener Ann Murakami’s presentation will be at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted to help cover copying costs for handouts.
Lasagna gardening is a method of building layers of decomposing material to increase the health and structure of garden soil.
Materials such as dried leaves or straw, green grass clippings and other yard waste are layered, which then allow direct planting into new, easily worked compost.
The layers are developed on top of cardboard or newspapers, suppressing weeds.
Murakami will share her step-by-step blueprint for building a productive raised bed by layering organic material.
A Master Gardener since 2013, she is involved in the Fifth Street Community Garden Master Gardener demonstration plots.
Her presentation is part of the Saturdays in the Garden educational series sponsored by the Clallam County WSU Master Gardeners.
