PORT TOWNSEND — A self-guided tour will invite participants into eight innovative kitchens in Kala Point on Saturday.
The 17th annual Association of American University Women/University Women’s Foundation of Jefferson County Kitchen Tour, “A Kala Point of View,” will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tickets are $15.
“The kitchens we’ve selected in Kala Point show a nice balance of new construction and remodels,” said Sandy Smith, kitchen selection committee member.
“It’s a lovely neighborhood with easy navigation and parking for the tour.”
The hospitality center at the Kala Point Clubhouse, 310 Sailview Drive, will open at 9:30 a.m. the day of the tour.
In addition to providing tickets — called passports — which will provide maps of the tour and detailed descriptions of the kitchens, a raffle will be offered along with free refreshments and kitchen-design seminars.
Free seminars
Seminars are free to all. It is not necessary to buy a ticket to attend them. They are:
■ 10:15 a.m. — “Kitchen Design-Make It Pop” by Kitchen & Bath Studio.
■ 11:15 a.m. — “The Key to Healthy Aging Is In Your Kitchen” by Home Instead Health Care.
■ 1:30 p.m. — “Your Kitchen at Home or in a Facility” by Home Instead Health Care.
Tickets can be purchased on the day of the tour and at the following locations:
■ In Chimacum at the Chimacum Corner Farmstand, 9122 Rhody Drive.
■ In Port Ludlow at Dana Pointe Interiors, 62 Village Way.
■ In Port Townsend at The Green Eyeshade, 720 Water St.; Kitchen & Bath Studio, 1210 W. Sims Way; Quimper Mercantile Co., 1121 Water St.; and What’s Cookin’, 844 Water St.
■ In Sequim at Over the Fence, 112 E. Washington St.
Examples of this year’s raffle items include a Seattle culinary tour, a spa package, overnight accommodations at a Seattle hotel, a seafood dinner for 10 people, local gift certificates and a rendering of the winner’s home by a local artist.
Fine design
Those who tour the kitchens will find fine design and expert craftsmanship, Smith said.
Several homeowners will provide contact information for area architects, designers and contractors they recommend.
Notable on this year’s tour are cabinetwork options in a variety of styles and wood finishes, Smith said.
“The counter backsplash does a lot to set the mood of a kitchen, and we have an impressive variety of them on this year’s tour,” she said.
The tour is sponsored by AAUW of Port Townsend and its philanthropic arm, the University Women’s Foundation, or UWF.
Proceeds support scholarships and education programs in the Brinnon, Chimacum, Port Townsend and Quilcene school districts.
