SEQUIM –– Ethan Wayne, son of the late film legend John Wayne, will help cut the ribbon on nonprofit radio station KSQM’s new transmission facility at 1 p.m. today.
KSQM-91.5 FM radio officials are celebrating the Sequim station’s newly completed broadcast tower, which will be called the John Wayne Memorial Transmission Facility, on Blue Mountain Road.
The ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony will be followed by a private reception at KSQM Studios, 577 W. Washington St., at 2:30 p.m.
‘Overjoyed’
“We’re overjoyed to be able to introduce our new broadcast facility to the public and those who helped bring this project to completion,” said Bob Schilling, KSQM general manager.
“This marks the inauguration of the most powerful FM radio service on the Peninsula.”
Along with Ethan Wayne from California, Sequim Mayor Ken Hays, Port Angeles Mayor Cherie Kidd and state and county officials also have been invited, according to Patrick Lauerman, spokesman for the radio station.
Gumby, too
Celebrated television character Gumby will be on hand to help power up the new complex as well, organized by Lauerman, who has overseen distribution of Gumby merchandise and memorabilia.
The new transmission facility gives the radio station the ability to broadcast its signal across the North Olympic Peninsula, as well as into the Interstate 5 corridor and southern British Columbia.
