“Tonight” is Friday, Sept. 27.
PORT ANGELES — Starting tonight and rolling into Saturday night on the Alle Stage at Studio Bob: Faces will be painted. People will be sketched. Original comedy will spill out, as will contemporary dance and drag. There may well be some burlesque and black-light effects.
All of this is called the Showtime Rotisserie, and it will get started at 8 p.m. both tonight and Saturday at Studio Bob, upstairs at 1181/2 E. Front St. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with admission at $10; patrons must be 18 or older.
The name comes from the concept: “a showcase of revolving hot talent,” said Sarah Tucker, organizer of experimental art and theater on the Alle Stage.
In the Showtime Rotisserie’s burlesque department, former members of the Girdle Scouts troupe will appear: Tucker, Matthew Finley and Brandon Christensen are on the agenda.
Then there is makeup artist Marjorie Newburg, who will paint faces tonight only, and Regie Saxerud, who will do quick sketches of audience members. Both artists will be working for tips, Tucker noted.
Also on the Rotisserie are local actors Becca Bowen and Alex Rosandich in an original comedy piece titled “A Frightening Encounter,” and veteran performance artist Shauna Keeley with a dance to “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,” the Iron Butterfly song from 1968. Keeley will incorporate black lights with fluorescent paint into her performance art.
Other featured performers include Dayna Stark, Bowen, Nicole Perez and Savannah Abbott, while Gregory Bondy, a member of the Peninsula Men’s Gospel Singers, will serve as the host.
Through the evening, paninis, wines and other beverages will be available at The Loom, the bar adjacent to Studio Bob.
