Garden show
SEQUIM — The Soroptimist Club will host its annual Gala Garden Show on Saturday and Sunday.
The show is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Sequim unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula at 400 W. Fir St.
The two-day garden show will offer about 60 vendors.
The club also will present Master Gardener speakers on both days.
An array of garden items will be raffled off and there will be a silent auction of work from the show’s featured artist, Denise Erickson.

Nature photography
SEQUIM — Local photographer Ross Hamilton will teach how to capture photographs of nature during Explore! Nature Photography at 6:30 p.m. today.
The program will be at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
Hamilton will discuss his favorite places to shoot on the Peninsula and share professional tips and tricks for working in the field.

Ancestors workshop
SEQUIM — Genealogical historian Donna Potter Phillips will present ways to learn about female ancestors this Saturday.
The two-part series will be at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave. It will begin after a short general meeting that starts at 10 a.m.
Phillips’ morning class, “Finding Lost Ladies & Missing Mothers,” is free and open to the public.
After a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m., Phillips will present “Our Lady Ancestors Were Joiners: Clubs, Societies & Organizations” from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The afternoon class requires advance registration of $20.

Thrift shop open
SEQUIM — The Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild’s thrift shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The final pieces of the historic vintage “Hall” pottery collection will be featured along with furniture, new spring fashions for all members of the family, jewelry, handbags and accessories, and much more.
All white-tagged items will be marked half-price at the thrift shop, 204 W. Bell St.
Using proceeds from the shop, the guild has donated more than $2 million to health care providers and emergency responders to date.

Elks bingo
SEQUIM — The Sequim Elks Club will host bingo games from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
Bingo is played at the lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.
Minimum buy-in for the game is $10 and the Elks offer popular bingo games, including progressive.

Sailing show
PORT TOWNSEND — The Northwest Maritime Center will host Tucker Thompson, the official host of the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda, for a presentation of his America’s Cup multimedia show at 6:15 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets for the 431 Water St. presentation are $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers.
The program includes an overview of the cup’s history, a chance to relive the USA’s dramatic comeback in the 34th race, an update from the ongoing Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series events and an inside look at what to expect for the 35th race in Bermuda.
A veteran sailor and TV announcer, Tucker has hosted more than 1,400 sailing shows, including the America’s Cup on television since the 2007 races in Valencia, Spain.

Plant, seed exchange
PORT TOWNSEND — The fifth annual Plant and Seed Exchange will be held at the Quimper Grange from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
The exchange is open to the public at the grange hall at 1219 Corona St.
The exchange is hosted by Ashley Kehl and Jennimae Hilliard, with the help of friends and family.
Attendees are encouraged to bring extra seeds, plant starts, bulbs, plant divisions and any other plants that need a new place to thrive, whether they be edible or ornamental.
Refreshments will be provided.
There will be a couple of demonstrations this year.

Bird presentation
PORT TOWNSEND — Wildlife photographer and author Paul Bannick will share an in-depth look at two of the Northwest’s bird species — owls and woodpeckers — at 6 tonight.
Bannick will serve as the keynote speaker for the Friends of Fort Worden annual meeting and social at the Fort Worden Commons, 200 Battery Way.
Doors will open at 5:15 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.
Author of The Owl and the Woodpecker, Bannick is set to publish a new book, Owl: A Year in the Life of North American Owls, this fall.
His presentation will include photos and stories that examine the relationship between owls and woodpeckers and the connections between these birds and their habitats.

PORT TOWNSEND — Janette Force, executive director of the Port Townsend Film Festival, will present a program on women in film at the AAUW Port Townsend branch meeting from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Force will discuss women’s roles and opportunities in film, including director, technical and performance positions.

Audubon field trip
PORT TOWNSEND — Admiralty Audubon will host a field trip along the Larry Scott Trail from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Participants are asked to meet at the Larry Scott Trail/Cape George Road parking lot at 9:30 a.m. for a 2.5- to 3-mile round-trip walk along a moderately easy trail through Douglas fir, some open horse pastures, across some private access roads and over a small hill looking for forest birds.
Walkers are urged to wear warm layers of clothing, gloves, hats and weatherproof shoes or boots, and bring binoculars, bird books and cameras.

In addition, she has completed research in archives in the United States, Latin American and Europe, and teaches creative writing at Pacific Lutheran University and Goddard College.

Svardal will talk about the Norwegian influence on California’s central coast, which she discovered during her eight years as newsletter editor for Monterey’s Aasgaarden Lodge of the Sons of Norway.
She will include stories about Norwegian immigrants who left their influence on the culture of the area.
Lodge membership is open to women of Nordic ancestry, and the public is always welcome.

Eagles benefit
PORT ANGELES — The Northwest Raptor & Wildlife Center and Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue will host 100 Feet to Freedom, an evening to benefit rehabilitating and releasing eagles, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Studio Bob.
The evening will be at Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St. All ages are welcome.
Admission is a suggested $10 donation.
Live music, a silent auction, guest artists, painting by Jeff Tocher and a live raptor show and presentation are planned.
All proceeds will benefit a 100-foot flight pen, which the groups are trying to bring to the Olympic Peninsula from Eastern Washington.

The class qualifies attendees for their Washington State Boater Education Card. This card is required for all boaters who are 60 and younger.
