WEEKEND: Fundraiser to benefit Port Angeles woman

PORT ANGELES — A flock of local musicians, bellydancers and business people are coming together Saturday night for “Raise the Rent!,” a benefit for Port Angeles resident Heidi Lynn Hardesty, who has hit a financial rough patch.

Members of the Soulshakers blues band, including singer-guitarist Mike Pace, are helping host the 8 p.m. event along with the Shula Azhar bellydance troupe and other local artists at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St.

Admission is $5, and proceeds will go straight to Hardesty, to help “keep her life on track, in the groove and covered by a roof,” said Pace.

Plans for the event began last week as Pace invited his musician friends to join him in supporting Hardesty, who is deaf and going through challenges with her health and employment.

Then percussionist Zubrie Kamau, bassist Paul Eyestone, entertainer Salmonella Riviere and Dan Maguire and the Juan de Fuca Band stepped up, as did bassist Tamatha Dannewitz, who will play alongside the Soulshakers contingent.

“This is shaping up to be the party of the season,” Dannewitz writes on Facebook.

“Come support a friend and make some new ones too.”

The “Raise the Rent!” schedule is being laid out; at press time it included the Juan de Fuca Band at 8:10 p.m., Shula Azhar at 9:50 p.m. and the Soulshakers at 10:30 p.m.

Drawings for prizes from local businesses and a 50-50 raffle also will happen throughout the night. For more information, visit Good to Go Grocery at Eunice Street and Lauridsen Boulevard., phone the store at 360-457-1857 or visit the “Raise the Rent” Port Angeles page on Facebook.
