WEEKEND: Fruit show in Sequim, harvest dinner in Port Angeles among events this weekend

NOTE: “Today” and “tonight” refer to Friday, Oct. 30.

A FRUIT SHOW and a harvest dinner are among the activities planned on the North Olympic Peninsula this weekend.

SEQUIM

Fruit show slated

SEQUIM — The Olympic Orchard Society will present its Fall Fruit Show at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The cost is $3 per person, $5 for a family or free with a society membership.

The fall fruit show features hundreds of apples and pears on display, fruit tree sales, fruit tasting and apple identification by a Master Gardener.

Light refreshments will be served.

Wild Bird Rescue

GARDINER — The public is invited to celebrate “Owloween” with Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue at Wild Birds Unlimited from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Wild Birds Unlimited is located at 275953 U.S. Highway 101.

Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that relies on donations to rescue injured native bird species.

Volunteer cleanup

PORT ANGELES — Hope After Heroin plans a cleanup at Lincoln Park today.

The group will meet at 12:30 p.m. at Lincoln Park on the south side of the softball fields to pick up trash in the pond area, on trails and in the playground.

After the cleanup, volunteers will go to Ediz Hook for refreshments.

The youth group is made up of volunteers 8 to 21 years old.

Anyone who wants to volunteer is welcome, as long as they are not active drug users, said Tina Sperry, who oversees the group as the adult supervisor.

Hope After Heroin meets Mondays at 7 p.m. at the White Crane Martial Arts Studio.

TAFY bake sale

PORT ANGELES — The Answer for Youth (TAFY) will hold a bake sale at Swain’s General Store from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Stop by at 602 E. First St. and support the local drop-in center for homeless and at-risk-for-homelessness youths of the area.

Harvest dinner

PORT ANGELES — Esther Chapter 19 Order of the Eastern Star is having its sixth annual Harvest Dinner at the Port Angeles Masonic Lodge, Seventh and Lincoln streets, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The group will serve a homemade turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children age 6-10 and free for ages 5 and younger.

JOYCE

Lions breakfast

JOYCE — The Crescent Bay Lions Club will hold a benefit breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

These breakfasts are held every Sunday through May 8 except Dec. 20 and Dec. 28 at the club, located on state Highway 112 and Holly Hill Road.

The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.

The menu includes eggs cooked to order, hot cakes, French toast, biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns, ham, sausage, bacon and coffee.

Proceeds help Crescent Bay Lions members support Crescent school yearbooks, scholarships for Crescent High School seniors, holiday food baskets, glasses for the needy and other community projects.

Everyone is invited to attend.

‘Lock-In’ slated

FORKS — The Forks Library will host an after-hours “Lock-In” for teens ages 12-18 from 6 to 8 tonight.

The library at 171 S. Forks Ave. will host an evening of karaoke, crafts, snacks and videogaming.

PORT TOWNSEND — Friends of Jung will present an evening with Laura Lewis Thayer at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Admission is $8 for the program at 2333 San Juan Ave.

Thayer has been practicing in mental health since 1990 and in East Asian medicine since 2001.

She practices privately in Port Townsend and lectures internationally.

Pool discount swims

PORT TOWNSEND — Mountain View Pool will host a discounted Open Swim from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

A second discounted open swim is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the pool at 1919 Blaine St.

Everyone can swim for $2. Noodles, rings and other floaty toys will be available. There will be no lap lanes.

Children younger than 8 must be accompanied by guardians.

Potluck and Jam

CHIMACUM — The Chimacum Grange will host a Community Potluck and Folk Jam from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Each participant is urged to bring a dish to share, a musical instrument if desired and a personal non-alcoholic beverage to the jam at the grange at 9572 Rhody Drive.

Plates and utensils will be provided.

The event is designed to celebrate community in Chimacum. Knitters, listeners, neighbors and families are welcome.
