WEEKEND: Friday classes to explore process of TaKeTiNa

SEQUIM — TaKeTiNa, a rhythm process developed by Austrian percussionist Reinhard Flatischler, comes to the Village Heartbeat Studio for free-standing classes tonight and next Friday night, June 7.

Zorina Wolf, the teacher at Village Heartbeat, invites everyone, no matter their musical experience, to either or both of these TaKeTina gatherings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Admission is by donation at the studio at 353 Chickadee Lane.

“In the TaKeTiNa rhythm circle, we consciously connect to everyday rhythm,” Wolf says. “We stand together in a circle speaking rhythmic syllables. These audible words guide us into simple steps and over time, more complex patterns in hand claps. As the rhythm continues to move us, we find a new way to enter the flow of space and time.

“Suddenly, we are an intrinsic part of something bigger than ourselves. We are part of the creation of rhythm, and at the same time carried by it.”

No drums nor experience are needed to join the class, so “just bring your curiosity,” said Wolf.

Those who would like to find out more about TaKeTiNa beforehand — and get directions to the studio — are also invited to visit www.
