COYLE — This Orcas Island singer and player enjoys raves across the West.
“Be prepared to be transported,” the Colorado Springs Independent’s Suzanne Becker wrote after hearing Carolyn Cruso, the multi-instrumentalist coming to the Coyle Peninsula on Saturday night.
Listeners of all ages are welcome at the 7:30 p.m. concert at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road.
Admission, as usual with the Concerts in the Woods series, is by donation.
“The folk diva mixes excellent musicianship with poetic lyrics and an ear for lilting melody,” wrote Glen Starkey, the longtime music critic at New Times in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Cruso is known for bending notes and playing two notes with one hammer on her dulcimer, and for songs that move through love, longing and redemption.
“Through her hands, the instrument became a living organism of beauty,” writes Charlie Vervalin of the Black Rose Acoustic Society.
Besides the dulcimer, Cruso plays guitar and a variety of flutes.
When not on tour, she teaches in her studio on Orcas Island.
