SEQUIM — At the front of the show stands “Amazing.”
That’s the name of an art piece by Dorothy McGuinness, one of 93 on display in the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival, the celebration of all things knit, woven and spun.
“I love that title . . . I love curating the show,” said Sequim artist Renne Brock-Richmond, organizer of the 9-year-old festival opening today at the Museum & Arts Center, aka the MAC, 175 W. Cedar St.
The event’s elements, all at the MAC, are:
■ “Parallel Patterns,” the free museum show with an opening reception today from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
■ The Fiber Arts Extravaganza, with free artists’ demonstrations and a Fiber Arts Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
■ Workshops in needle-felting, wool-spinning, tapestry weaving and furoshiki bag-sewing Sunday; for details, contact organizer Amelia Garripoli at 360-582-0697 or www.askthebellwether.blogspot.com.
For the “Parallel” exhibition, Brock-Richmond; her mother, Dona Brock; and artist Gloria Skovronsky made over the MAC.
Whole space a sculpture
“The whole space is a sculpture . . . artworks mesh together or lead you to the next delight around the corner,” Brock-Richmond said.
Forty-five artists from eight states contributed works in silk, cedar bark, fleece, quilted and embroidered fabrics, and many other kinds of fiber.
“I am honored to showcase these talented folks,” Brock-Richmond said.
“Trust, talent and teamwork make this festival happen.”
