PORT TOWNSEND — “Compound Images,” a mix of swirling, stacked and layered art, has arrived at the Northwind Arts Center, 2409 Jefferson St., for a stay through this month.
Admission is free to the show, and art lovers are invited to a free talk about it at 1 p.m. Sunday.
“Compound Images” features collage, sculpture and works in resin paint on aluminum — and it’s an interactive experience, too. Visitors are encouraged to create their own compound works of art by taking photographs at Northwind and then posting them on Facebook.
While anyone can participate, this show offers a gift to the first 25 children younger than 12: a do-it-yourself kaleidoscope kit to take home.
The works in “Compound Images” include a. k. anderson’s piece “I’ll leave the light on for you;” Dan Larsen’s “Looking Back;” Harold Nelson’s “View of the Bay from the Cell Phone Tower” and Jaap Romijn’s “Playing with Space.”
Some of the pieces are subtle while others are dramatic, and all are made to bring the viewer in for some up-close exploration.
