WEEKEND: Duo to sow bluegrass in two Peninsula locations today, Saturday

NOTE: “Today” and “tonight” refer to Friday, Oct. 31.

A couple of performers from out of town are fixing to cultivate the bluegrass tonight and Saturday at two locations.

Slipshod, a duo from Portland, Ore., specializes in music to help you “forget life’s travails,” promises guitarist-mandolinist Steve Blanchard.

He and dobro-banjo man Matt Snook will bring their brand of folk, country and, yes, bluegrass to the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, this evening and to the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, on Saturday night.

Both shows will start at 7 p.m., with admission at $10.

Blanchard added that tonight, concert-goers are welcome to arrive in Halloween costumes if they’re so inclined.

Blanchard, who played for years with the Prairie Flyer band, met Snook through the Northwest’s bluegrass community. The two formed Slipshod in 2012 and have since played concert halls and pubs around Oregon and Washington.

Repertoire

Slipshod’s repertoire runs from originals to covers of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and “Girl from the North Country,” while “Wichita,” “Did She Mention My Name,” “Wagon Wheel” and “Ginseng Sullivan” are also on the set list.

“We cover some Gordon Lightfoot, Norman Blake, Bob Dylan, John Denver, Simon and Garfunkel, and Tim O’Brien,” added Blanchard.

“Slipshod shows are easygoing, family-friendly,” he said.

“Come hear some tunes new and old, and enjoy live music in an acoustic environment. You’ll laugh, cry, sing and go places in your mind.”
