PORT TOWNSEND — “Get Lucky in Love, Life and Song” is the theme of three interconnected events celebrating love, music and community this weekend, and everyone is invited.
First, married musicians Daniel Deardorff and Judith-Kate Friedman will offer “Lucky Enough: An Evening of Love Songs” at the Key City Playhouse, 419 Washington St., on Saturday night.
Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. At 8 p.m., Friedman and Deardorff will share original and classic love songs and musical settings of poems by Rumi, Robert Bly, Jane Hirschfield and William Stafford.
Tickets are a suggested $20 donation for general admission or $10 for students and those on a fixed income.
To reserve some, visit www.keycitypublictheatre.org or phone the playhouse box office at 360-385-5278.
For those who can’t come but want to enjoy the show online, Concert Window will provide live streaming at http://tinyurl.com/PTLoveDogs.
On Sunday, a pair of workshops will take place at the Key City Playhouse. They are:
■ A love-song-writing workshop at 1 p.m. with Friedman and Abakis, aka Aba Kiser.
In this 90-minute class for musicians, poets and the curious, the two women will share favorite love songs in a variety of genres, speak briefly about their creative processes and have a discussion with participants of their favorite songs and verses.
Advance tickets are $25; at the door, admission will be $30, while those who attend both classes Sunday will receive a $5 discount.
■ A community songwriting event is set for 3 p.m. with Friedman and Abakis, again at the Key City Playhouse.
In this, everyone is welcome — no prior songwriting experience nor musical background required — to join in composing a brand-new love song for Port Townsend.
Friedman will facilitate, using the Songwriting Works approach to community songwriting through participants’ stories, sounds, images, melodies, rhythms, values and choices.
Admission will be $20 at the door or $15 for Key City Public Theatre members and those who purchase in advance.
For reservations at either or both of Sunday’s workshops, visit www.keycitypublictheatre.org or phone 360-385-5278.
Scholarships are available, too, with information at Songwriting Works, 360-385-1160.
In addition to supporting both Songwriting Works and Key City Public Theatre, proceeds from these events will benefit the Mossy Rock Tree Fund to defray roof- and tree-repair costs following last December’s windstorms.
