Wine and cheese

PORT ANGELES — “Ferments and Fromage 2014,” a benefit for Operation Uplift sponsored by Olympic Peninsula Title Co., will be held at the Sons of Norway Scandia Hall, 131 W. Fifth St., at 4:30 p.m. today.

The third annual wine-and-cheese event’s tickets are $10 in advance or at the door.

Beer, wine, fruit, cheese, a raffle and a silent dessert auction are planned.

Operation Uplift is a Port Angeles-based cancer support group that offers education, information, support meetings, a 24-hour phone line, free clinics, prostheses and wigs for women and men with cancer.

Horticulture workshop

PORT ANGELES — A free Hugelkultur (hill culture) workshop will be held at the Fifth Street Community Garden, 328 E. Fifth St., from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Led by Meggan Uecker, WSU Clallam County Extension waste reduction coordinator, and Clallam County Master Composters, attendees will learn the art and science of this technique through hands-on participation in building Clallam’s first Hugelkultur demonstration.

Outdoor Club hike

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Outdoor Club will hike the Geyser Valley Trail on Sunday.

This is a moderately easy hike of 7.8 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of 600 feet and a high point of 1,300 feet.

Sons of Norway dance

PORT ANGELES — The Sons of Norway host a dance with instruction from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Sunday.

All ages are welcome to the lodge at 131 W. Fifth St. for an evening of ballroom, swing and folk dancing.

The cost is $2 for members and $3 for guests.

Potluck refreshments are at 9 p.m.

SEQUIM

Bunco party slated

SEQUIM — A bunco fundraiser will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., from 11:30 p.m. to 3:30 today,

The cost is a $12 donation, which will go toward uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

There will be a buffet luncheon, a silent auction and door prizes.

Roller derby bout

SEQUIM — Port Scandalous Roller Derby will present its second bout of the season at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Port Scandalous Strait Shooters will go up against the Dockyard Derby Dames’ Marauding Mollys from Tacoma at the Sequim unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula at 400 W. Fir St.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. Those with pre-sale tickets can get in the door at 5:45 p.m.

Pre-sale tickets are $10 at Drake’s U-Bake Pizza & Subs, 819 S. Lincoln St. in Port Angeles; the Sequim Gazette office at 147 W. Washington St.; or online at www.brownpapertickets.com.

Tickets at the door are $12, with children 5 and younger admitted free. There is a military/senior discount with current identification at the door.

The Boys & Girls Club’s Keystone Club will operate a concession stand to support the teens’ fundraising efforts.

Summer classes

SEQUIM — Around Again, 22 Gilbert Road, is offering a free summer class on reusing and repurposing things at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The event is a barbecue and introduction to Around Again.

At 1:30 p.m., Around Again President Gavin Wuttken will introduce information about the nonprofit organization.

Boy Scout event

SEQUIM — Boy Scout Troop 90 will host a free recruiting event at Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Boys ages 10½ to 17 are welcome to discover what the troop has to offer.

Boys ages 14-20 can come learn about the Venture Crew.

SEQUIM — A $5 Sunday breakfast will be served at VFW Post 4760, 169 E. Washington St., from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Spartan dinner, auction

FORKS — The Forks High School Football Booster Club will hold its inaugural Spaghetti Feed and Player Auction at Forks Middle School, 121 Spartan Ave., on Saturday.

Bidding on groups of Spartan football players starts at 6:30 p.m.

The event is open to the public.

The cost is $5 for a plate of spaghetti.

FORKS — A rummage sale to raise funds for Boys 13U and 14U baseball is set from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 290 Ash Ave.

Funds raised will support tournament fees and insurance costs.

Firefighter recognition

FORKS — A Firefighter Recognition Dinner will be held at the Elks Lodge, 941 Merchants Road, at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The department will recognize several retirements, announce firefighter of the year awards and recognize current and retired volunteers.

The cost is $25.

PORT TOWNSEND

Fort Worden trail walk

PORT TOWNSEND — The Olympic Peninsula Explorers will host a Fort Worden/Cappy Trails walk at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The walk is 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles).

The 5K walk is entirely within Fort Worden State Park. The 10K also travels through residential areas of Port Townsend entering Fort Worden.

Maps for both walks are available at the registration point at Subway Restaurant, 1300 Water St., across from the entrance to the ferry terminal.

All walkers must sign up.

The walks are free unless participants are members of the AVA American Volkssport Association.

Walkers can carpool from Sequim. They must meet at 8:45 a.m. at the QFC parking lot at 990 E. Washington St.
