QUILCENE –– Compositions from Beethoven’s final years will be featured for the ninth weekend of Olympic Music Festival’s 31st season Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Violinists Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu, Jessica Lee and Alan Iglitzin will play Piano Trio in G major (“Kakadu Variations”), Op. 121a; Sonata No. 10 in G major for Violin and Piano, Op. 96; and String Quartet in C sharp minor, Op. 131, with cellist Matthew Zalkind and pianist Julio Elizalde.
“The final works of Beethoven’s life are monumental achievements in the history of music,” said Iglitzin, executive director of the festival.
“His groundbreaking creativity opened up new horizons for composers for generations to come.”
Lee, returning for her fourth season at the Olympic Music Festival, is a member of the Johannes String Quartet and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Two.
Zalkind participates in numerous chamber music festivals including Marlboro and Ravinia. He was the first-prize winner of the 2012 Washington International Competition and won distinction as top-ranked American in the 2011 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
The Olympic Music Festival is located on a 55-acre farm 18 miles south of Port Townsend.
Patrons can choose to sit inside the barn or outside on the lawn where the concert is broadcast.
