WEEKEND: Beethoven’s best comes to Quilcene’s Olympic Music Festival on Saturday, Sunday

QUILCENE — The Olympic Music Festival presents Saturday and Sunday the fourth weekend of its 31st season with Charles Wetherbee and Korine Fujiwara on violin, Alan Iglitzin on viola and Walter Gray on cello.

Chamber music concerts, which begin at 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday afternoon through Sept. 6-7, are held in an early 1900s dairy barn that has been converted into a performance hall.

The festival grounds, which are about 18 miles south of Port Townsend, open at 11 a.m. before the barn doors open at 1 p.m.

Ticket prices range from $18 to $33 for the concert at 7360 Center Road in Quilcene.

The fourth weekend’s program will highlight compositions by Beethoven, which are representative of the three periods generally associated with his musical career.

Performed will be the String Quartet in G major; Op. 18, No. 2 from his early period; the String Quartet in E minor; Op. 59, No. 2 “Razumovsky” from his middle period; and the String Quartet in F major, Op. 135 from his late period.

Wetherbee and Fujiwara, violins, and Walter Gray, cello, return for their second weekend at the festival this year and, in concert with artistic director/festival founder Iglitzin on viola, complete a string quartet.

Patrons can choose to sit inside the barn or outside on the lawn, where the concert is broadcast.

Ticket can be purchased by phone at 360-732-4800 or online at www.olympicmusicfestival.org.
