WEEKEND: Art runs gamut during Saturday’s Port Townsend Gallery Walk

PORT TOWNSEND –– Bovine reproductions of some of history’s most famous paintings will mesh with Middle Eastern dancing and textiles during the city’s Gallery Walk on Saturday.

Graphic designer Terry Tennesen will show 24 of the world’s most famous paintings, though he has replaced many of the models with cows, based on a dinner party dare by a friend last winter.

Tennesen’s work will hang in the Clam Cannery, 111 Quincy St., and a reception will be in the first-floor gallery during Saturday evening’s Gallery Walk. His paintings will be on a silent auction, with proceeds benefiting Dove House Advocacy Services.

The circuit of galleries and shops is from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In addition to the art, this month’s gallery walk includes mystery stories from PT Shorts in the Cotton Building, and Blues in the Clubs will have classic Americana songsmiths playing downtown.

Venues include:

■ Pippa’s Real Tea, 636 Water St.: The international Surface Design Association’s North Peninsula chapter will show its twisting of fibers, fabric and other extrapolations of textiles, woodworking and wire bending with a display during Gallery Walk.

■ Max Grover Gallery, 820 Water St.: Vashon Island artist Andie Styner will give gallery walkers a view from “The Eye of the Beholder” with an exhibit of close-up images of flowers and a Japanese-inspired look at the beauty of the imperfect.

■ Maestrale, 821 Water St.: Dancers Kalara and Jo Ann Alber will perform Middle Eastern dances every half-hour from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

■ Gallery 9, 1012 Water St.: Jeweler Roberto Costa has combined with multimedia artist Marie Delaney for a display celebrating the forms and colors of the sea.

■ Zero Waterstreet Studio, 819 Washington St.: Jani Daubenspeck’s perspectives on age and beauty will decorate the old cracker factory.

■ Port Townsend Gallery, 715 Water St.: Stephanie Oliveria’s steel comic garden sculptures, Melinda Bryden’s multimedia creations, garden art by Dennis McDaniel and Walter Massey, and Philip Carrico’s woodcuts and wood engravings will be shown in and outside the gallery, with many featured in the seaside garden.

■ William’s Gallery, 914 Water St.: Leslie Ann Butler’s mixture of acrylic paints, gold and copper leaf, charcoal and oil displays throughout the month.

■ Simon Mace Gallery, 236 Taylor St.: The coordinated black-and-white works of artists Alison O’Donoghue, Chris Theiss, Betsy Barnum, Jody Joldersma and Todd Horton lend a two-tone look to the Gallery Walk.

■ Jordini’s, 929 Water St.: Port Hadlock artist Caroline Culbertson’s pen, ink and tempera work, ranging from the beautiful to the bizarre, covers the walls this month.
