PORT ANGELES — Second Weekend is here, with free art parties, live music and marine debris made into large sea creatures, all commingling downtown tonight through Sunday.
Highlights include:
■ “Life Simply Stated” is the title of Wendy Johnson’s miniature watercolor display at Karon’s Frame Center, 625 E. Front St.
Art lovers can join her for refreshments and conversation during a free reception from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. this evening.
■ Second Friday Art Rock mashes up music and visual art made on-site at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St.
This month’s pairing has wood-block artist Michael Mills — also known as Professor Mills at Peninsula College — and the Dan de Fuca Band, a foursome specializing in original rock, folk, blues and country.
Dancing and art-making will start at 8 p.m.; the 21-and-older party has a $3 cover charge.
■ The Heatherton Gallery, inside The Landing mall at 115 E. Railroad Ave., showcases work by sumi-e painter and calligrapher Hideko Goecker, comic sculptor Steve Wry and watercolorist Priscilla Patterson this month.
A reception with the artists, plus smooth jazz by Tom East, Jason Paul and Dave Keyte, is today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
■ Digital fractal art by Pamela Dick adorns the Landing Artists’ Studio, next door to the Heatherton Gallery inside The Landing at 115 E. Railroad Ave.
Light refreshments, Dick’s demonstrations and art by other Landing Artists will await at the studio from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. both today and Saturday.
■ A new driftwood octopus by Port Angeles’ Tammy Hall as well as pottery, paintings and purses made of recycled inner tubes are at Harbor Art, the artists’ collective at 110 E. Railroad Ave.
Art lovers are invited to a free reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
■ The inaugural Marine Debris Group Art Show brings together elaborate sculptures integrating buoys, shoes, rope and other beach debris at Studio Bob, 1181/2 E. Front St.
A flock of local artists including Dana Wu’s Forks High School students and Port Angeles sculptors Tammy Hall, Jennifer Bright, Deidre Gonzales, Richard Stephens and Sarah Tucker also built creatures for this exhibition, which opens with a party from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. Saturday.
Admission is free, and the show will reopen from noon till 3 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
■ The Soul Ducks, a rockabilly-blues-surf band featuring singer Phyllis Gale, will arrive for a Saturday night dance with no cover charge at Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St.
The Ducks will carry on from 8 p.m. till midnight while refreshments flow at The Loom, Studio Bob’s lounge adjacent to the dance floor.
■ Cafe New Day, 102 W. Front St., is displaying Janie Brackney’s steampunk art and pen-and-ink drawings through October.
