PORT ANGELES — North Africa, the Middle East and the North Olympic Peninsula will meet this Sunday in a souk — an Arabian-style marketplace — upstairs at Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St.
Lauren Jeffries-Johnson, a member of the Shula Azhar bellydance troupe and the proprietress of Udjat Beads in downtown Port Angeles, is inviting vendors and shoppers to the market from 3 p.m. till 7 p.m. Sunday. There will be no admission charge to come up and browse among the vendors, who’ll set up souk-style on tables and rugs.
During the souk, Middle Eastern-style food and drink, as well as apple tea, will be available for purchase at The Loom, the bar adjacent to Studio Bob.
“Everyone is welcome to both sell and buy,” said Jeffries-Johnson.
For vendors, “items should be re-imaginable for costuming or decorating,” so possibilities include new and used costumes and parts, pillows, trays, candle holders, fringe, fabric, belts, skirts, scarves, hats and hair pieces, ribbon, yarn, jewelry — whole or parts — as well as silk flowers and ornate things for the home.
A self-described pack rat, Jeffries-Johnson plans to bring her own large collection of fabrics, jewelry and brass plates.
Vendor setup will begin at 2 p.m., and Jeffries-Johnson asks sellers to email her at udjat@olypen.com to ask questions and reserve spots. The fee is $5 per 8-by-12-foot space.
“Bring a rug or a sheet, a table and or a rack to display your wares,” she said. “Bring anything that you think will work into someone else’s costume or decorating dreams.”
