Water to be shut off in eastern Port Angeles today

PORT ANGELES — Water service to several hundred people in the eastern part of the city will be shut off for 10 hours to 12 hours today, beginning at 7 a.m.

Port Angeles crews will repair a large water main, said Annette Owens of the city’s water and sewer department.

The shutoff will cause low pressure — or no water — in the following areas:

  • East of Heart O’ The Hills Parkway and south of Park Avenue.

  • Golf Course Road area from Third Street south.

  • Customers on the Morse Creek main line, who also were affected by a repair on June 3.

“It’s several hundred homes, so it’s pretty substantial, Owens said.

“It’s not so much that all of them in those areas will be out of water.

“Some of them will have low water pressure.”

The city has put signs out in the area to alert residents to the impending shutoff, she said.

The outage is scheduled for as long as it is expected to take to dig down to the large line, Owens said.

It is not unusual for air to mix with water when water lines are being refilled, making water may appear milky-looking, but that will dissipate after all the air passes through, she said.

Those in affected areas should minimize use of water during the period the water will be shut off, she said.

Clallam County Public Utility District also is asking its customers between the west side of Morse Creek and the city of Port Angeles to conserve water during the shutdown.

Customers can phone the city’s water division for updates after 7 p.m. Friday at either 360-417-4855 or 360-417-4849.
