PORT TOWNSEND — Construction workers will remove the remaining power poles from downtown Water Street starting at 7 a.m. Monday.
The removal of the poles is the last step in the Water Street Enhancement Project, which has removed overhead power lines and installed more aesthetically pleasing street lights.
The removal of the poles is expected to take five days. Sidewalks and bus stops will remain open throughout the work, Parsons said.
Parking on Water Street between Taylor Street and the ferry terminal will be impacted on one side of the street, one block at a time, Parsons said.
The project has moved the electrical and communication lines underground over the last year through a partnership between the City of Port Townsend, Jefferson County Public Utility District, CenturyLink and Wave, according to a press release from Laura Parsons, civil engineer for Port Townsend’s Public Work Department.
