SEKIU — Outdoor water restrictions are in effect for a small water system west of Sekiu, the Clallam County Public Utility District announced Monday.
The Stage 4 water alert affects 33 customers in the Island View water system about 10 miles west of Sekiu.
“Effective immediately customers are to eliminate outdoor water use and minimize indoor water use,” PUD officials said Monday.
The Stage 4 alert for the Island View system was prompted by low flows in Olsen Creek, which supplies water for the area.
The PUD will begin trucking in water from the nearby Clallam Bay/Sekiu water system, officials said Monday.
“The objective of the Stage 4 plan is to eliminate outdoor use of water and reduce overall system water consumption by 10 to 20 percent,” the announcement said.
Several other PUD water systems — and the city of Port Angeles’ water utility — are under Stage 2 alerts with voluntary water conservation being encouraged.
The PUD systems under Stage 2 alerts Monday were Clallam Bay/Sekiu, Upper Fairview, Gales Addition, Mount Angeles and Monroe.
The city of Port Angeles declared a Stage 2 alert Aug. 6.
The PUD provided the following tips for water conservation:
• Fix leaky faucets and toilets.
• Take shorter showers, not baths.
• Install low-flow showerheads and faucets.
• Operate automatic dish and clothes washers only when full.
• Collect and use water that is wasted while waiting for the hot water to reach the faucet for houseplants or outdoor plants.
• Use water-efficient appliances.
The National Weather Service was calling for rain on the North Olympic Peninsula lowlands Wednesday.
