Water pressure to be reduced in Port Angeles next week

PORT ANGELES — The city of Port Angeles will temporarily reduce water pressure to its utility customers beginning Monday.

During the reduction, city utility customers are encouraged to limit water use to necessary activities such as drinking, cooking and basic hygiene to minimize further reductions in water pressure. Residents also are asked to restrict activities like lawn watering, filling pools and washing cars, according to a press release from the city.

The reduction is necessary to finish the replacement of a failing altitude valve at the Jones Street Reservoir. It is expected to be completed by Friday.

The failing valve is designed to maintain reliable pressure in the city’s water system.

The reduced pressure may trigger alarms on fire sprinkler systems. Businesses and residences with those systems are encouraged to review them ahead of time for the proper way to respond to such alerts.

Some water utility customers may notice minor discoloration in the water after normal pressure is restored. That should resolved by running faucets for a few minutes until the tap runs clear, the city said.

For more information, call the Public Works Utilities Department at 360-417-4800.
