Wanted Forks man arrested in reportedly stolen car

PORT HADLOCK — A man and woman from Forks were in the Jefferson County jail Saturday after the two were arrested following a brief chase with county sheriff’s deputies 3 miles south of Port Townsend on Friday afternoon.

Brandon R. Pope, 24, and Jessica R. Hahn, 25, were arrested Friday after a deputy tried to pull over a 1985 Chevrolet pickup truck driving north on state Highway 20 at about 3 p.m. Friday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office gave this account of the events leading to the pair’s arrest:

The deputy tried to pull over the truck, which had been reported stolen in the Forks area, but it sped away after briefly pulling to the side of the road.

After a brief pursuit, the driver, later identified as Pope, ran off into the woods after pulling the truck off Highway 20 into a private driveway.

Deputies, a Sheriff’s Office police dog and Port Townsend police officers found Pope hiding in a stand of bushes after a 45-minute search. They arrested him without further incident.

Pope was booked into jail for investigation of eluding a police vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing a public servant, driving with a revoked license and a state Department of Corrections warrant for escaping from custody.

Hahn was booked for investigation of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
