FORKS — Will Forks’ newest public school be the Eagles, Cougars or Warriors?
The Quillayute Valley School Board wants public input on the mascot and colors for the district’s newly minted Forks Intermediate School.
Colors under consideration are aqua blue and black, blue and green, blue and grey, or blue and gold.
Members of the public can vote at www.tinyurl.com/PDN-Mascot through Nov. 17.
Pencil and paper surveys are available at the district office. Votes also can be emailed to FISmascot@qvschools.org.
The School Board will conduct a public hearing and special meeting for community discussion at 5 p.m. Nov. 18.
The district’s schools underwent a major reorganization over the summer of 2014.
Four schools were created where there were three.
In September, the former Forks Middle School building was reorganized for younger students in fourth through sixth grades, and renamed Forks Intermediate School.
Since the new school has no mascot or school colors, the district is seeking public input to create a new identity for the students, said Superintendent Diana Reaume.
A committee including intermediate school students, parents, staff and board members prepared a selection of options, which were approved by the School Board on Tuesday.
Forks Elementary School was shifted from a kindergarten through fifth-grade school to a pre-kindergarten through third-grade school, and retained the colors of purple and gold as well as the mascot, the Puddle Jumpers.
The now-defunct Forks Middle School housed students in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.
Students were the Warriors and wore the colors of blue and gold.
Forks Junior High School, newly opened this year for the seventh and eighth grades in the former Annex Building, selected the mascot Junior Spartans, with the colors of blue and gold.
Forks High School remains the Spartans, with the colors of blue and gold.
