Volunteers are sought for Port Angeles board positions

PORT ANGELES — The city of Port Angeles is looking for community members to contribute their perspectives by serving on an advisory board, commission or committee.

Interested individuals must submit their applications by noon Aug. 22 to be considered during the first review, according to a press release.

The city has a variety of advisory boards, commissions and committees.

From beautification programs to public safety services, the advisory groups offer an opportunity for individuals to weigh in on a range of issues.

Advisory group members are appointed by the city council and volunteer their time to serve the community.

Each advisory group is unique in its number of members, roles, duties and term lengths. Terms of office vary between one and four years.

Most terms begin March 1 in the year the appointment is made and conclude on the last day of February in the year when the appointment expires.

Additionally, each advisory group provides an opportunity for youth participation.

While youth advisors are non-voting members, they have a unique opportunity to offer their perspectives, learn about city government and develop their leadership skills.

To serve as a youth advisor, applicants must be 14 to 18 years old and reside within the city of Port Angeles. A parent or guardian also must provide written permission for the youth member to participate. Applications will be reviewed each fall and then as needed to fill vacant positions.

Port Angeles is seeking applications for the following advisory groups:

• Civil Service Commission

• LOEFF 1 Disability Board

• Lodging Tax Advisory Committee

• Parks, Recreation and Facilities Commission

• Public Safety Advisory Board

• Utility Advisory Committee

Applicants are asked to review eligibility requirements prior to applying. The application contains a link to eligibility requirements for each board, commission and committee.
