PORT TOWNSEND — A small sailboat was successfully towed to safety after being unable to make headway due to currents and wind.
At 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, East Jefferson Fire Rescue’s fire boat Guardian responded to a request from the Coast Guard to aid a small sailboat in distress off Point Hudson.
The vessel wasn’t taking on water and none of the sailboat crew was injured, according to an EJFR press release.
The Guardian stood by until volunteer search and rescue nonprofit Salish Rescue arrived and towed the sailboat to safety, according to the press release.
EJFR Assistant Chief Brian Tracer praised the assistance of Salish Rescue and commended state ferry Samish, which was standing by if further assistance was needed.
“This incident is yet another example of how the various federal, state, local and non-profit organizations located in Jefferson County work together to ensure the best possible outcomes whenever our residents or visitors have an emergency,” Tracer said.
