The state Department of Natural Resources is seeking volunteer hosts for the Bear Creek and Lyre River campgrounds in Clallam County.
The hosts would maintain the rustic campgrounds and serve as a primary “point of contact” for visitors, the state department said in a prepared statement.
All hosts must complete basic first-aid training and pass a State Patrol criminal background check.
Bear Creek
The Bear Creek Campground is on the south side of U.S. Highway 101 at Milepost 206 along the Sol Duc River.
Two hosts are preferred. Although the campground is open year-round, hosts would stay during the summer months only, in a site without water or electricity.
A minimum of one month is required, but longer stays are welcome.
The campground has sites for self-contained overnight camping, including areas for recreational vehicles, and is open for day use.
It has a trailhead for a hiking trail to the Sol Duc River and offers fishing opportunities.
Two camp sites are accessible to the handicapped. Toilets also comply with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

Lyre River
The Lyre River campground is five miles outside Joyce on state Highway 112.
Two hosts are preferred, to live in the campground through September.
A recreational vehicle pad, with water but no electricity, is provided for hosts.
The campground has 11 sites for visitors. It has no trail access.
