SEQUIM — Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County is accepting registration for a six-week community and volunteer education series on Friday afternoons beginning April 10 and concluding May 15.
Classes will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.
The program is free and open to the public. Registration is required because space is limited.
Volunteer Hospice provides free services to terminally ill patients and their families.
Here are descriptions of the classes:
■ April 10 — “Introduction to Hospice” by Marilyn Nelsen, who has a doctorate and who serves as volunteer services manager; and screening of a documentary film, “Pioneers of Hospice.”
■ April 17 — “Attitudes Toward Death and Dying,” with the first half of a DVD, “Consider the Conversation,” and presentation of “Patients as Mentors” by Bette Wood, RN, patient care manager.
■ April 24 — “Attitudes Toward Death and Dying,” with the second half of the DVD “Consider the Conversation” and a group discussion.
■ May 1 — “The Gifts of Grief,” a DVD, will be shown and “The Grieving Process” will be presented by Debby Smith, RN, Sequim grief support group facilitator.
■ May 8 — “Becoming a Hospice Volunteer,” with the “Lessons for the Living” DVD.
■ May 15 — “Putting It All Together: Self-Care for Volunteers,” a summary, discussion and evaluation presented by Astrid Raffinpeyloz.
