PORT TOWNSEND — The inaugural Jefferson County Volunteer and Mentoring Fair will showcase opportunities for volunteering from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The fair, designed to provide a “one-stop” opportunity for potential volunteers and mentors, will be at the Cotton Building, 607 Water St.
“We are a small county, but we have incredible resources,” said Sheila Ramsey, fair organizer and volunteer coordinator from the retired senior volunteer program and Project Mentor of Olympic Community Action Programs, or OlyCAP.
Thriving programs
“Our organizations thrive and survive due to volunteer support,” Ramsey said.
Participating organizations include the Boiler Room, Building Futures Mentoring Program, Center Valley Animal Rescue, Ecumenical Christian Helping Hands Organization, Jefferson County 4-H programs, Jefferson County’s guardian ad litem program, KPTZ radio, OlyCAP programs, OlyCAP Thrift Store, Project Mentor, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, The Tool Shed, Transition Academy/Concerned Citizens, Working Image and Jefferson County YMCA.
The fair will provide information on the types of services and programs these organizations provide.
Educational breakout sessions will be provided at the adjacent Pope Marine Building throughout the fair.
The focus of these sessions will be on the importance of volunteering/mentoring for a community, building community capacity through partnerships, volunteer recruitment and retention, and more.
Entertainment, snacks — available by donation — and door prizes will be provided.
