CONTINUING THROUGH July 31, explosives are being used to lower the concrete wall of Glines Canyon Dam, once 210 feet high.

This time-lapse video documents the dismantling of the Glines Canyon Dam, with a large explosion toward the end of the video.
The demolition work — in addition to blasting, workers are using a huge hydraulic jackhammer on a barge — is part of the $325 million Elwha River restoration project that began in September with the beginning of the demolition of Elwha Dam, built in 1913, and Glines Canyon Dam, built in 1923 — both of which were constructed without fish ladders.
Elwha Dam, 5 miles from the mouth of the river, was removed earlier this year, and Lake Aldwell behind it has drained.
