Victoria’s sewage-treatment mascot to visit Port Angeles City Council

PORT ANGELES — A 7-foot-tall mascot nicknamed Mr. Floatie will attend Tuesday’s City Council meeting to invite local officials to the first annual Victoria Toilet Regatta being held July 23.

The unusual mascot and regatta are intended to draw attention to the city of Victoria’s need for a secondary sewage treatment plant, said James Skwarok, coordinator for People Opposed to Outfall Pollution.

Skwarok said he will give a short presentation on Victoria’s sewage treatment problem and then invite Port Angeles’ mayor and council to the regatta in Victoria’s Inner Harbour.

The Port Angeles City Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

Fundraising event

“We’re inviting the mayor and council to participate in the toilet bowl race, which is the first of its kind,” Skwarok said.

“It is designed as a fun community event to raise money for a sewage treatment plant and increase awareness.”

Skwarok said his organization — with the appropriate acronym POOP — isn’t a protest group. It is advocating for Victoria to build a secondary sewage treatment plant.
