PORT ANGELES — Victoria police are searching for Harold Backer, a bicyclist well-known in Victoria and Port Angeles who was last seen exiting the MV Coho in Port Angeles last Tuesday, according to Victoria police spokesman Bowen Osoko.
Osoko said this afternoon that Backer, 52, has not been seen since Tuesday after telling his family he was going out for a bike ride.
Osoko said Victoria authorities are cooperating with Port Angeles police and the State Patrol in a statewide effort to locate Backer.
Osoko said Backer did not tell family members he was taking the ferry to Port Angeles.
“His behavior is very out-of-the-ordinary, from what his family told us,” Osoko said.
“As you could imagine, they are very worried.”
Osoko said there is no indication of foul play.
Backer is described as a 6-foot-3, 52-year-old Caucasian man with a medium build who weighs 200 to 220 pounds.
His eyes are green and he has graying hair.
Backer is believed to be wearing a red cycling jersey and black riding pants, is possibly carrying a black backpack and would be riding his black Cannondale road bike.
If anyone sees Backer, they are asked to call 9-1-1.
