VICTORIA — The carcass of a brown cow that washed up on the beach east of the entrance to Victoria Harbour is on its way to Calgary, Alberta.
“Cuddles,” as the dead cow was called by city workers, was gently scooped up with a bucket-excavator, covered with a blue nylon tarp and carried up the incline of a hard-pack pathway to a waiting two-ton flatbed truck.
The carcass washed ashore out of the Strait of Juan de Fuca over the weekend. Her origins are unknown, but the waterlogged carcass could have floated to Victoria from the North Olympic Peninsula or San Juan Islands.
