The largest Veterans Day observance on the North Olympic Peninsula will be at the Port Angeles Coast Guard station on Ediz Hook.
The ceremony, presented in conjunction with the Clallam County Veterans Association, will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The public is welcome to attend and can enter the facility from the front gate at 1 Ediz Hook starting at 9:15 a.m., the Coast Guard said.
Visitors are urged to arrive early and expect delays at the gate because of enhanced security requirements.
The Coast Guard Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles has been designated a regional Veterans Day observance site for the 21st straight year by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
The featured speaker will be retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Thomas Johnson, who flew a record 506 close air support missions in the A-4 Skyhawk in Vietnam.
American Legion Riders will present the colors.
The Port Angeles High School Band, Sequim High School Select Choir, Olympic Peninsula Men’s Chorus, Grand Olympic Chorus of Sweet Adeline’s International and bagpiper Rick McKenzie will perform.
Organizational flags will be at the event. The flags must be delivered to the Clallam County Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St., between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. today. No flags will be accepted at the field office’s gates.
The Clallam County Veterans Association will deliver the flags to the Coast Guard station, where they can be picked up following the Saturday ceremony at the Coast Guard Air Station-Sector Field Office Port Angeles.
Those unable to coordinate with the given time frame are urged to call Tammy Sullenger at 360-477-5120 for alternate instructions.
On Saturday, all guests must arrive via vehicle; no walk-ons will be permitted, the Coast Guard said.
Visitors are required to present a valid government issued form of identification to gain access to the base. Weapons will not be permitted on the base.
The ceremony will be conducted inside the air station hangar. Because the hangar doors will be open for the duration of the ceremony, visitors are encouraged to dress for the weather.
All guests are invited to remain after the ceremony for complimentary refreshments provided by the Clallam County Veterans Association.

Veterans Day program
PORT TOWNSEND — The Marvin G. Shields Memorial Post 26 American Legion will host its annual Veterans Day program Saturday.
A 10:30 a.m. pre-ceremony concert by the Port Townsend Summer Band will begin the day’s events at the post, 209 Monroe Road.
The public is invited to the event.
During the event, the Legionnaire of the Year Award will be delegated to a member and the Quilts of Valor will be presented to 29 local veterans.

Honor ceremony
GARDINER — The public is invited to an honor ceremony for Petty Officer Marvin G. Shields at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest holds the annual event at the Gardiner Cemetery, 137 Gardiner Cemetery Road.
General parking for this event is available at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, with ADA parking at the cemetery.
This year’s guest speaker is Rear Adm. John Korka.
Korka is currently the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific commander and the regional engineer for the Pacific Fleet.
Shields continues to be the only Seabee to have been awarded the Medal of Honor and the first sailor killed in Vietnam to have been awarded the Medal of Honor, according to a news release.

GARDINER — The National Sojourners Olympic Chapter 539 will sponsor a memorial service for U.S. Navy Petty Officer Marvin G. Shields at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Members of the public are invited to attend the ceremony at the Gardiner Cemetery, 137 Gardiner Cemetery Road.
Clallam County Commissioner Mark Ozias, Jefferson County Commissioner Kathleen Kler and state Rep. Mike Chapman are expected to speak during the service, said Marc F. Povondra, organizer.

Corps anniversary
SEQUIM — The Marine Corps League Mt. Olympus Detachment will celebrate the 242nd Marine Corps anniversary from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.
Members of the public are invited to join in the celebration banquet at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.
Quartermaster Kathy Nichols will share her experience of 20 years in the Marine Corps, as well as women serving in the Corps.

D-Day presentation
PORT ANGELES — Mac MacDonald will speak at the Center for Spiritual Living Port Angeles about the D-Day landings at 7 p.m. Saturday.
His free presentation at the center’s Big Barn, 254 N. Bagley Creek Road, will focus on the event’s significance and how to relate that to strengthening communities.
A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.
MacDonald was chosen as a speaker at the 70th commemoration of the WWII landings in Normandy, France.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in layers.
Appreciation potluck
PORT ANGELES — The Fairview Grange will host a veterans appreciation potluck at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Veterans or active service members are not required to bring any food to the event at the grange, 161 Farm Lake Road.
All other attendees are encouraged to bring an item for the potluck.
A short ceremony and a token of appreciation from the grange will be held.

FORKS — The Fletcher-Wittenborn VFW Post 9106 will host a Veterans Day ceremony at the Forks Transit Center, 551 S. Forks Ave., at 11 a.m. Saturday.

FORKS — The Forks Elks Lodge will host its annual veterans dinner at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Benefit breakfast
JOYCE — Veterans and active service members can attend the Crescent Lions Club benefit breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday free of charge.
The cost for others is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger at the Crescent Bay Lions Club clubhouse at 181 Holly Hill Road off state Highway 112.
The menu includes eggs cooked to order, hot cakes, French toast, biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns, ham, bacon, sausage, coffee, tea and orange juice.
All proceeds will go to the Crescent Bay Lions for community projects.

Veterans dinner
BRINNON — The Brinnon Booster Club will host a Veterans Day roast beef dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children younger than 10 at the club’s building, 151 Corey Lane.
The menu will feature roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, salad, a roll and dessert.
