Vacancy on Forks City Council may be filled next week

FORKS — Forks Mayor Nedra Reed is hoping another community-minded resident will step forward to serve on the City Council following the resignation of Councilman Tim Fletcher.

“Tim has moved to Valley View, which is not in the city limits, so he is resigning from the council,” Reed said.

“We are hoping to fill the position by Dec. 27 so we can start 2005 with a full council.”

Other council members — Artie Anderson, Denise Graham, Bryon Monohon and Pat Mansfield — are expected to accept Fletcher’s resignation Monday and appoint a new member.

“Tim served the city very, very well and we will miss him,” Reed said.

“I am hoping other community-spirited folks will step forward to serve the city.”

Fletcher has been on the Forks City Council since 2002 following a November 2001 election in which he ran unopposed.

Reed said Fletcher’s move to Valley View, which is a community about four miles beyond the city limit, called for him to resign his post.

“I am not living in the city limits anymore, therefore it is my understanding that I must resign my position as City Council person and with this e-mail that is what I’m doing,” Fletcher said in his resignation letter directed to Rod Fleck, city attorney/planner.

“It’s been very rewarding being a part of and serving our great community.”

Council members will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall to discuss applicants to fulfill Fletcher’s term, which expires Dec. 31, 2005.
