OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST — Authorities were searching Tuesday for a 24-year-old hiker who went missing in the Buckhorn Wilderness south of Sequim.
Jeremiah Adams, a sailor stationed on the Bremerton-based USS Nimitz, was last seen Friday when he left for a day hike in Olympic National Forest, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said.
Adams was described as about 5-foot-9, 150 pounds with blue eyes and short blond hair.
Clallam County Chief Criminal Sheriff’s Deputy Brian King said Adams failed to rendezvous with friends for another hike on Saturday.
Fellow sailors spotted the 2013 Ford Fiesta that Adams was driving at the Lower Greywolf trailhead south of Sequim at about 10:30 p.m. Monday, King said.
The trailhead can be accessed from Palo Alto Road.
Clallam County Search and Rescue is coordinating a search that involves Kitsap County Search and Rescue and USS Nimitz sailors.
Ground searches were being conducted in the 44,258-acre wilderness Tuesday.
