A weekend of rain, wind and possible flooding — with oodles of snow in the mountains — is on its way.
Our 3 p.m. summary:
HIGH WINDS: A warning exists for the West End from now until about 4 a.m. Saturday. Gusts could top 65 mph tonight, according to National Weather Service forecasters.
It’ll get breezy around Port Angeles, Sequim and Port Townsend, too.
BIG WAVES: Surf as high as 29 feet is expected along the Pacific Coast. The biggest waves are expected in darkness: between 4 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday.
PERIODIC FLOODING: Heavy rains expected in Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend and other lowland areas could produce localized flooding. Look for the worst from late tonight until late Saturday night.
UP IN THE MOUNTAINS: The Olympics will get a good dose of long-awaited snow. Between 6 inches and a foot of snow will have fallen by Sunday morning. Hurricane Ridge Road is open this afternoon for traffic to come down to Port Angeles, but the road is likely to be closed this weekend because of the coming storm.
GAMETIME: The National Weather Service says nobody will mistake CenturyLink Field for the Louisiana Superdome on Saturday when our Seahawks host a playoff game Saturday against the New Orleans Saints. Gametime (1:35 p.m.) forecast calls for rain, winds up to 25 mph and a high temperature of 49 degrees (not 49er degrees — that comes later!).
