Snow dusts the grounds of Jefferson County International Airport shortly after daybreak — snow

The snow that dusted the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Hood Canal coastal lowlands overnight is over and sun is already appearing.

By 11 a.m., the chance of snowflakes will be gone, the National Weather Service advised.

However, temperatures will remain at or near freezing, so the white stuff will turn to ice.

Parking lots, sidewalks and other paved areas already are icy — be careful!

Areas near the water got the least snow, about an inch to cover rooftops and gardens.

By 300 feet, up to 6 inches accumulated in the area stretching from Port Townsend to Sekiu and down Hood Canal past Brinnon, Weather Service reporting stations reported.

Here’s the official forecast for the Strait of Juan de Fuca coast for the balance of the weekend:

TODAY: Mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 28 by 4pm. Northeast wind 10 to 13 mph.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 24. South southeast wind 5 to 7 mph.

SUNDAY: Sunny, with a high near 35. East wind 6 to 8 mph.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29. Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph.
