Snow fell steadily across the North Olympic Peninsula this morning, but tapered off during the afternoon.
It may take several days — or longer — before much of it is washed away.
By noon, about 5 inches of new snow was reported in many areas of Jefferson and Clallam counties, raising snowfall totals since Sunday to a foot or more.
Major roads and highways were clear, but with slippery conditions.
Moisture that is on streets is likely to freeze overnight.
Thursday could see a rain-snow mix at times as temperatures creep up to the mid-30s.
Here’s an updated forecast, by area, from the National Weather Service for Jefferson and Clallam counties as of 2 p.m. today:
THIS AFTERNOON:
Port Townsend area — A 50 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 30. Blustery, with a north wind around 22 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Sequim area — Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 29. West northwest wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Port Angeles area — Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 31. East northeast wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Forks area — A 50 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 29. Blustery, with a northeast wind around 25 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
